Major Life Reset: When Everything Feels Off — But You Can’t Explain Why

There are times when people come to therapy with something specific.

A situation.

A loss.

A pattern.

And then there are times when it feels different.

Nothing is clearly wrong —but nothing feels quite right either.

And people say, my life has just never felt right, there are just so many things.

You may find yourself thinking:

  • I feel off, but I don’t know why

  • Things aren’t working, but I can’t pinpoint the problem

  • I just feel stuck in my life

This can feel harder to explain — may feel even harder to resolve.

When It’s Not One Thing — It’s Everything

Sometimes, it’s not a single issue.

It’s a broader experience of:

  • feeling out of sync with yourself

  • making decisions that don’t quite align

  • patterns repeating across different areas of life

  • or a sense that things aren’t moving in the way they should

You may notice:

  • relationships not working in the way you want

  • difficulty gaining traction in certain areas

  • or a feeling that you are not fully where you should be in your life

Not because you’re not trying —but because something underneath isn’t aligned.

Why This Happens

Experiences from earlier in life shape how we respond — often more than we realise.

Over time, we develop:

  • patterns of thinking

  • emotional responses

  • and ways of navigating the world

These are influenced by:

  • early environments

  • experiences of safety or unpredictability

  • how we learned to relate to others

  • and how we came to understand ourselves

These responses become automatic.

And even when life changes, those internal patterns often remain.

This can create a mismatch between:

👉 the life you are living now and

👉 the internal responses still guiding you

When You Know Something Isn’t Working — But Can’t Change It

Many people at this stage already have awareness.

You may:

  • recognise that something isn’t working

  • see patterns across your life

  • or feel that you are not fully aligned with where you are

And yet, there isn’t a clear “problem” to fix.

This is often where people feel most stuck.

Because:

👉 it’s not one issue

👉 it’s a system that isn’t working as it should

What a “Life Reset” Actually Means

A life reset is not about starting over.

And it’s not about forcing change.

It’s about:

👉 working at the level where your responses and patterns have been shaped

👉 allowing what no longer fits to shift

👉 and creating alignment between how you respond and the life you are living now

In approaches such as Major Life Reset BWRT, this involves working at a deeper level of the mind — where long-standing patterns and responses are held and maintained.

How This Work Happens in My Practice

In my work, we start with working on specific trauma and losses and then we go into the major life reset process which can be done in a single 2 hour session or over a few sessions. We may even follow it up with the Identity process, a 4 session process

We approach it as:

  • understanding what isn’t working

  • Looking at any specific events - trauma or losses that we can shift the impact of

  • identifying the patterns that are still active

  • and working at the level where those patterns are being maintained

This may involve a combination of approaches, depending on what is needed — including:

  • trauma and emotional processing

  • grief work

  • pattern work

  • and deeper identity-level processes

The aim is not to force change.

It is to allow a shift in how you:

  • experience yourself

  • respond to situations

  • and move through your life

What Changes When This Shifts

When this level begins to shift, people often notice:

  • a clearer sense of direction

  • less internal conflict

  • more alignment in decisions and actions

  • and a greater sense of stability

Not because everything externally has changed —but because how they are responding internally has shifted.

When to Consider This Kind of Work

You may want to explore this if:

  • you feel stuck, but can’t identify one clear issue

  • things across your life don’t feel aligned

  • patterns keep repeating in different areas

  • or you feel out of sync with yourself

This is often the point where deeper work becomes relevant.
